Did You Ever Feel the Thrill of the Chase?

[Two posts in one month? Perhaps there's hope for this thing yet. Though, really, I wouldn't consider the last one a "true" post. More a glorified tweet.]

My Plan for Happiness;

Phase 1: Meet girl
Phase 2: ???
Phase 3: Profit

Just a shame I’m failing miserably at Phase 1.

One night last week, Sarann said to me “life is boring if you don’t fancy anyone”, and by golly she’s right. I’ve always measured my, ahem, droughts purely on how long I’ve been single (Coming up to 11 months, fact fans). But now I realise there’s more to it than that.

The Sound of Settling

February 4, 2009 at 6:16 pm (IRL, Ramblings) (, , )

On Monday night, whilst lying in bed unable to sleep (mostly because my ears were still ringing), my mind started to race, flitting from thoughts of the gig, plans for the weekend, other blog entries, work and so forth. Until, that is, it had the grace to settle on one single image; Rachael and I stood on her doorstep, waving goodbye to Izzy, Rob, Dan & Matthew after the BBQ we had at the start of summer.

It wasn’t so much the usual emo trappings that got me (don’t get me wrong, they were still there, just not so in force as they would’ve been a few months back) but more the ideal is represented. Perhaps it is merely a cliché that has been burnt into my subconscious by too many American sitcoms & family dramas, but being that settled is about all I want from life at the moment. Ironic, really, since that desire to be settled is why Rachael left me (well, that and me being a rebound thing. Not that she said that. She didn’t say much, to be honest. One text and two Facebook messages. CLOSURE IS GOOD, YES? Me, bitter? As if. But I digress).

My work life is settled (I come off probation this week), and my social life is getting there. Izzy and Dan came round for dinner last night, and it was the first time I’ve had friends round since, oh, last October? In addition, Ant & Tilly are coming on Friday, which’ll be grand, as I certainly didn’t do enough with those two whilst we were at uni. Hopefully these kind of things will become a bit more regular in the future. I mean, what’s the point of having a lovely clean flat if I’m the only bugger who ever sees it? Still, there’s just one key element missing, a fact that will no doubt be hammered home with Valentine’s fast approaching.

Missing Yesterday

November 7, 2008 at 11:14 pm (Ramblings) (, , )

Just once, I’d like to go see Feeder and not have to sit through Just A Day. What made it even worse this time was that midway through the gig, the crowd started chanting the “doo doo doo doohs” and Grant said “Oh we’re not playing that tonight, time to move on”. Seems he was joking since, as ever, they closed with it. Oh, and they didn’t play Yesterday Went Too Soon. Rest of the gig was by the numbers really. As ever, pre-Echo Park stuff was just High & Insomnia. Still, was fun for the most part, and I’m glad I went (I almost didn’t, as I’ve been exhausted all day). One thing that always strikes me when I go see Feeder is how much Grant loves being on stage. He always has a permanent grin on his face, like he still can’t believe where he is.

More, less positive ranting below the cut (click through at your own peril. Seriously)
