Zombies Are So Last Month

December 23, 2008 at 11:10 pm (Miscellanea) (, )

Way back when I blogged about a pilot I’d caught on the iPlayer, Being Human. Seem it’s been picked up for a full run, and the beeb have started the hype for it by releasing a few teaser segments for each character. Sadly, however, two of the three cast members are not returning. Still, musn’t grumble. Just so long as it isn’t repurposed to cash in on this current Twilight-mania…

And on the topic of vampires, more Ultraviolet please.

Dead Space – This Fall’s Other ‘Dead’ Game

December 23, 2008 at 12:46 pm (Gaming, Reviews) (, , )

[What's this? A piece of game writing? Looks like. This has been sat in my drafts folder since 31/10, so this lunchtime I elected to hastily finish it off. 50 internets to anyone who can guess which paragraphs I wrote today. - Si]

As readers of this blog will no doubt know, of the big releases coming this fall autumn, Dead Space was the one I was looking forward to most. So, does it live up to the hype and, more importantly, my expectations? The short answer is a resounding yes. As for the long answer, well you’ll just have to carry on reading below the cut.

Sit Back, Relax, Recover

December 22, 2008 at 10:46 pm (Miscellanea)

And for the first time in many a Christmas, I am doing just that. For the past 6 years, I have had the constant threat of January exams detracting from my Christmas break (in fact, it was never much of a break at all). Now, however, there is no such worry; I have a week and a half off work, and intend to enjoy Christmas Day, slob around on Boxing Day, see friends and generally unwind, without any shadows hanging over proceedings. Which will be nice.

Tomorrow I head to my parents for a few days, Katie in tow. Potentially meeting up with Alex (my ex ex ex. Or something. Haven’t seen her for two years) on Christmas Eve, then the 25th itself will be spent with family. Then on the 27th I’m going to catch up with Ollie and Jonnie, neither of whom I’ve seen for going on 5 years now (they were my best friends from Reception through to 6th Form, but then we kind of drifted apart. Teenagers, eh?). All in all, should be a good break. I am actually looking forward to it, which is certainly a novel experience.

Still, one day of work to get through first, though I can’t see much being done…

Glad to See You Back Again

December 12, 2008 at 1:13 pm (Gigs) (, , )

Last night I went to see the Bluetones in Sheffield with Dale and his sister. It’d been a year since I’d last seen the band, and about 2 and a bit years since I’d last seen Dale, so I was looking forward to the evening, and it didn’t disappoint. Follow the cut for what turned out to be a rather ramble-icious entry (which, in retrospect, could really do with some photos) on the evening.

BAF: Game ‘08

December 5, 2008 at 9:48 am (Miscellanea) ()

[This entry was written, oh, on the 18th of November, but languished in my drafts waiting for some images. Which I never got round to posting on flickr. Because I'm lazy.]

As I may have mentioned in passing on here at some point (I honestly can’t remember), after work last Wednesday I treked over to Bradford for the start of BAF: Game. In fairness, ‘trek’ is a bit of a misnomer, as Bradford is actually closer to work than home is. Anyway, I digress. So, yes, the first night consisted of two screenings, Stolen Life and Second Skin. The former was a full-length machinima created using 3DGameStudio and featuring professional voice acting (including FarScape’s Claudia Black) and editing. In fact, once I got past the dated visuals, I found myself quite enthralled by the whole affair.

A Concerened Reader Writes…

December 5, 2008 at 9:47 am (Miscellanea)

“You’re not dead, are you?”

No, I’m not. But I do realise this blog has been especially quiet of late. Fact is, my life has devolved into two things; Work and WoW, neither of which make for interesting blogging material. Hopefully some fun things will happen over Christmas that I’ll be able to write about. Maybe. Probably not,

Actually, that’s a blatant lie. The other weekend (well, 3 weeks ago) I went to BAF: Game and Thought Bubble, and intended to blog about them but never did. I even have an almost finished entry on BAF that just needs a few pictures. Maybe I should just throw caution to the wind and publish it picture-less.
