Take Me Out to the Black, Part One

And so endeth my first ‘op’ on EVE. As mentioned way back when, I reactivated my account and joined a small scale Corporation, StateCorp. Tonight was the first night I took part in a bit of PvP hunting (the aforementioned op). After spending 15 days training for Interceptors, I took my shiny new Malediction, Kalendra-ICm Mk1, out for a test ride. Follow the cut for details of how it went.

It all started off well enough, though I’m still learning what half the jargon means (and it didn’t help that the guy running the op had a scottish accent, so had to not only understand what he was talking about but also what he was saying). Of course, it didn’t last long. Ten jumps from home and I realised I’d fitted the wrong kind of tackling module. Instead of a Warp Disruptor I had a Warp Scrambler. Seems a simple enough mistake, but had rather dire implications which I shan’t go in to here. Suffice to say, it kind of made me useless at my given role in the gang.

We pressed on regardless, moving through each system, scouting out the next and then jumping in en masse. Eventually, we happened upon a lone pilot, and engaged. However, at the time of engagement, only myself and another gang member were involved; our target quickly took me down, and I was unable to escape. The rest of our gang quickly arrived and dispatched him, whilst I limped my way home in my pod (thankfully the bastard had been too distracted to pod-kill me).

After getting home and fitting out a new Malediction (Kalendra-ICm Mk2) pilfered from the Corp Hanger, I made my way back to the gang. We then proceeded on our route, which eventually took us out of 0.0 and into Empire space and then on to Syndicate. We had a couple more sorties, but didn’t manage any more kills. Eventually we decided to call it a night and start on the long journey back to Pure Blind.

The trip home was uneventful up until about 4 jumps away from J-CIJV. We ran into several ‘reds’ (members of the Red Alliance, a bunch of assorted ruskie corps). I’m not quite sure what happened at this point, but I had somehow ended up on the wrong side of a jump gate, surrounded by enemies. Luckily, I was still cloaked and, being in an interceptor, they had no chance of catching up with me as I warped off to my next waypoint and home.

In all, an interesting evening. Perhaps not incredibly exciting, but I still feel I learnt plenty. Look forward to the next op, hopefully this time I’ll actually get to do something useful other than just dying!
