I’m Back

June 30, 2008 at 2:07 pm (Gaming, IRL)

So yes, I’m back from Paris. And I’ve lots and lots and lots to write about. However, not just yet, as I’m rather exhausted. Expect plenty of typings from me in the next few days. Just as soon as I’ve had a good nights sleep and a proper meal or two…

Whitby

June 20, 2008 at 9:01 am (IRL)

Tuesday saw Rachael and I take a trip to Whitby. I could go into great detail about the day, but as the old adage goes, a picture tells a thousand words. So, it’d be easier for me to link to the set on Flickr, where there are the equivalent of 39,000 words already written. In short, it was a lovely (if overcast) day, and made a nice change from Leeds. We only saw one crane!

Burn, Bitches!

June 20, 2008 at 8:52 am (Gaming, Ramblings) ()

Or not, as the case may be. Last night saw the release of the latest update for Team Fortress 2, which primarily concerned updates to the Pyro class. Now, anyone who knows me, or has even looked at the logo up there, may understands that this is my favourite class, and the one I am most adept at playing. Looked at my TF2 Stats earlier, and it seems I’ve spent a day of my life setting people on fire (and in the game). So, naturally, I was excited about this update.

Take Me Out to the Black, Part Three

June 13, 2008 at 12:20 pm (Gaming) (, , )

Tuesday saw the release of the latest EVE expansion, The Empyrean Age, which focuses on lowering the barrier of entry for PvP by adding a middle ground between mission running in Empire and roaming the lawless reaches of 0.0 space. This was accompanied by a days worth of downtime during which all out war was declared by the four principle factions in New Eden. Full details of the day’s events can be read here. I could go into detail about how great it is that the Caldari State have retaken Caldari Prime, but that would be incredibly geeky…

Take Me Out to the Black, Part Two

June 7, 2008 at 11:53 pm (Gaming) (, , )

Logged on this afternoon to find that Jim has finally returned. Before I describe what followed, first a little back-story; Jim (Rossignol) is an ex-PCG staffer and currently writes for Rock, Paper, Shotgun as well as other assorted freelance stuff (he’s written a book, too; This Gaming Life). After seeing me comment on some of his EVE related articles in November when I started playing, he sent me an email asking if, assuming I was still playing after a few months, I’d like to join his Corp (the aforementioned StateCorp). I replied, saying sure, if I was still around.

Of course, time, money and repeated deaths conspired against me, and I stopped playing in January. However, a couple of weeks ago he sent me another email, so I took him up on the offer and reactivated my account, eager to try out the other side of EVE Online. Ironically, just after I joined StateCorp, he moved house and was without internet for a while, leaving me kind of drifting (as he’d suggested he’d teach me the ropes). Except now he’s back, and seemingly has great plans for the State. And with that out of the way, details of today’s op are after the cut.

2i

June 6, 2008 at 3:05 pm (IRL, Ramblings)

So, by some great cosmic fluke I came out with a 2i. Which is shiny, as I was expecting a 2ii. Still hasn’t really sunk in yet, though, I imagine that is due to the constant threat of finding a job and a house before I run out of money (which happened about yesterday).

Take Me Out to the Black, Part One

June 5, 2008 at 11:35 pm (Gaming) (, , )

And so endeth my first ‘op’ on EVE. As mentioned way back when, I reactivated my account and joined a small scale Corporation, StateCorp. Tonight was the first night I took part in a bit of PvP hunting (the aforementioned op). After spending 15 days training for Interceptors, I took my shiny new Malediction, Kalendra-ICm Mk1, out for a test ride. Follow the cut for details of how it went.

Sitting In Today

June 1, 2008 at 1:39 pm (IRL, Ramblings)

Hmmm, I appear to be making a worrying habit out of this not posting thing. I should really do something to fix that.

Anyway, I figure you all want filling in on what I’ve been doing for the past couple weeks. Oh, you don’t? Oh well, I’ll tell you anyway. Because I’m nice like that.

So yes, as some of you already knew, some of you had already guessed and everyone else now knows thanks to Facebook (which we all know is law when it comes to such matters), Rachael and I are officially ‘in a relationship’. And honestly? I’ve never been happier.

Now that that is out of the way, on with more humdrum matters below the cut.
