Sooo, Natural Language Processing tomorrow. I’m doomed. The name should’ve given it away really. I know nothing about language. I, like Kieran, was hoping for a little more processing than we actually got. No matter how hard I try, it just refuses to sink in. I tried researching an algorithm we used (I’m normally quite good with such ‘doing’ questions). Here’s what I found:
Head noun emphasis: any NP not contained in another NP, using the Slot Grammar notion of “containment within a phrase”.
I’m sorry, what?
However, I must persevere. As much as I want to throw in the towel and go do something fun, I can’t. At least, not just yet. Maybe a few more hours of banging my head against a wall and I’ll be at that stage.
An Update
What? Why are you looking at me like that? Just what do you want? Oh. You want me to write something? Ok, I’ll give it a go.
Yes, this old thing has been a bit thin on the ground of late, hasn’t it? With good reason. Exams, obviously, have taken up a lot of my waking moments. Not all, but most. Other than that, there’s not been much else going on, at least that I care to write about here (ohh, mystery! How exciting. Not really). I’m sure I’ll have a nice lengthy word explosion next weekend, once my future is a bit more mapped out, but for now it’s just a case of getting through this last exam.
Which is going to be tough. Not because the content is hard, but because there is so little content. And it’s all, once again, wooly and research led. The module changed hands this year, which has resulted in a hodge podge arrangement of lectures, and no past-papers to use as an indication of what ours will contain.
Oh well, it will all be over soon enough. Then there’s just the small issue of FYP feedback on Friday…
In other, more game-related news, I reactivated my EVE Online subscription. Wonder how long I’ll stick with it this time? This time, however, I shall be joining a Corp, which may make things easier. We shall see. GTAIV is going slow. It’s not that I don’t like it, it just pisses me off every now and then. The lack of mid missions saves is still my major gripe. Replaying the same mission 5 times because Niko decides that, no, he’s not going to take cover behind the bit of wall I’m looking at, but instead the wall over there, in clear view of the nasty men with big guns. Right.
More soon. Maybe?
Sunny Days and Rain
So…
One day I’ll break my reliance on the word ’so’ as a conversation starter. Or an anything starter, really. Anyhoo, yes, what’s been happening? Not much. Lectures finished today. Forever. Scary thought. In three weeks, I will be all done. Then I need to start properly thinking about a house and a job and all sorts. Bloody scary.
What else, erm… got a laptop, as you may or may not have seen from my Flickr photos. It’s very shiny. In fact, I’m currently lying in bed typing on it whilst controlling Winamp on my PC through VNC. Win. I also bought GTA IV, but it’s not proving to be as addictive as I had once feared. Since Wednesday evening I’ve probably only spent around 8 hours playing it, so hopefully it wont impact my revision…
Ahhh, revision. Finding motivation to begin is proving hard. After the massive slug of the FYP crunch period, these exams just seem like an epilogue. Still, it starts in earnest on Sunday. Revision will, of course, require a proper sleeping pattern, something that has been an issue of late… Getting three hours sleep this morning really wasn’t fun. Well, it wasn’t fun when I woke up. As ever, staying up so late always seems like such a good idea at the time.
Finally, Iron Man. Awesome. Best comic book film to date, in my humble opinion. Downy was perfect as Stark, the CGI was flawless and it was all just so fun. Certainly made up for the abberation that was Spider-Man 3…
(Looking at it, I also need to break my reliance on ‘…’ …)
